Efficiency Hero Illustrations and Logo

This was the best project I’ve worked on at my current place of employment to date. This is for a campaign involving 6th-8th grade kids uploading videos of their selves installing the items that come in their energy savings kits – like a high-efficiency showerhead. The marketing department wanted a superhero theme and almost used a stock illustration – until me and my coworker Stacey jumped in and took over the design of the entire campaign. Together, we contributed to this cool website where one lucky kid will win an iPad for their video submission (and for being an Efficiency Hero).

The story here is that two ordinary kids become superheros while trying to save the world from the infamous Incandescent Bandit, who runs around stealing energy wherever he can. The story was much more complicated and involved a love triangle originally, but then it was decided to keep the story simple for the chilluns’ – and you know, less grown-up.

The Hamburger Story

I was tasked with drawing something that illustrates the following story:

“Most of us have had a hamburger, so let’s look at what natural resources go into making one. Wheat, used in making the bun, is planted by a farmer using a tractor which runs on fuel that is refined from oil that comes from great depths in the Earth. The tractor itself is made of many metal parts—iron, aluminum, zinc, lead, and copper. The wheat seedlings are irrigated by water carried in copper or iron pipes and fertilized by phosphorous, nitrogen, and potassium. Baking takes place in an electric or natural gas oven. The bun and beef are transported by truck over highways made with iron and concrete. You pay for the hamburger with money (bills and credit cards contain metals, paper, or plastic). Cleaning up after the meal will require water and soaps or detergents, which contain minerals. Finally, if the hamburger gives you a stomach ache, it can be relieved by antacids, which contain minerals, too. It is amazing how many natural resources are used in making a hamburger!”

Fun Fact: I was given like 20 minutes to do this whole thing.

Student Guide Cover (Illustration & Design)

I created a fun cover for a student guide that teaches 6th-8th grade children energy and water savings concepts. The kit that this student guide comes in gives children and their families energy saving devices such as energy-efficient showerheads and nightlights. Combined with the student guides and worksbooks, the kits allow children to find out how their every day habits can affect the world they live in.

Website Design for Perfectly Posh – local wedding cake and dessert table creator!

In July or so, I traded Perfectly Posh this website design for my wedding cake. It was just recently launched, so check it out.

This was round 3 of the illustration featured in the center – and it was all done with use of my Wacom tablet – no hand drawing first. The first two rounds were awesome (and hand drawn first), but just a different style. This one fit my client’s vision perfectly and I’m so happy – I think this even ended up being my favorite version.

Fun fact: this is pretty much MY dessert table from my wedding that Perfectly Posh created for me. Just a few details were tweaked.

Kit Box Illustration

I illustrated/designed this for a kit box at the new company I work for. It wasn’t chosen for the final design because it’s just way too cute to be released to the public, obviously. I mean – it could start riots. It’s one of my fave illustrations I’ve done in a long time, though – so I wanted to share it!

SWAT logo for Resource Action Programs internal competition

This is a logo I did for the current company I am working for – Resource Action Programs. We are having a company contest to see which half of the company can ship the most energy and water saving kits by the end of the month. Our team name is SWAT, and the opposing team are the Regulators. I wanted to do something police-like – but not a full on badge.

Wedding Invites & Holiday Cards

They are surrounded by my Matt and Jentry template because I posted these originally on my photography website in an effort to get more brides interested in combining photography and design services – since a lot of brides want custom invites to match their custom everything else for their wedding.

Illustration – Australian/American Dudes

These illustrations were part of the laminates I did for Tool – they accompanied this illustration in a pretty hilarious way, but since the laminate was used for part of their tour, I won’t post what the whole thing looked like for…..I dunno……3 years. It had Lord of the Rings & Vegemite references as well. To tide you over until I can post the whole thing, enjoy. PS – I make it a point to make everyone a redhead. And do I make a fearsome crocodile or what?

For our Cube catalog, I was given the fun task of running around the back shop taking pictures of all our cool stuff. We distressed the photos and added a ton of grain…we’re pretty rough and dirty at Cube.
